Lightning Ridge Central School was first established as a Primary School in 1911.The school is close to town and outlying areas are served by school buses.
The school has an enrolment of approximately 500 students who come from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, with about 30% identifying as Aboriginal.
A wide range of equity programmes operate, which targets special needs, including gifted and talented children ,literacy and numeracy development, cultural enhancement activities, physical and social development and early childhood education.
The School Council which includes five parents and community members provides advice and gives support for policy development and implementation.
The Parents, Teachers and Citizens Association provides an important forum for people to hear about school activities, and provides advice and comment.
GENDER EQUITY: Gender is consciously considered with role models in Student Leadership of both sexes and learning support offered as learning needs are identified
GENERAL: in state-wide competitions in English and Mathematics, students have won both Distinctions and Credits.
The school operates three departments with each having a specific focus * Kindergarten to Year 4-Junior Department-Getting the foundation right Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and actions. The school has high expectations with regard to quality work, uniform, behaviour, punctuality and respect for one another
The school is well equipped with new secondary facilities, technology and skilled teachers. Community support is extremely strong.
There is an Aboriginal Language program operating in the school and Aboriginal culture is include in lessons where appropriate in line with The Aboriginal Education Act. |
