Lightning Ridge
Ambulance Vehicles
Lightning Ridge Ambulance Station is equipped with two Ambulance Vehicles
from the Ambulance Service of New South Wales fleet, a Toyota Landcruiser four
wheel drive Ambulance and a Volkswagen Transporter Ambulance.
The Volkswagen Transporter Ambulance
 |
The Volkswagen Transporter Ambulance was brought into service with the
Ambulance Service of New South Wales in 1998 as one of a variety of
vehicles to replace the ageing Ford series Ambulances currently in
service. This vehicle arrived at Lightning Ridge station in December 1998
and has performed well. |
 |
This version is an Automatic two wheel drive petrol model fitted with
anti-lock brakes, drivers SRS airbag and side impact interior bars. The
vehicle has two attendant seats in the rear as well as the stretcher. One
attendant seat can be folded and extended into a second stretcher if
needed. |
 |
This Ambulance is well fitted with a lot of consideration given to
Occupational Health and Safety. Large heavy equipment is well placed near
doors for easy access and safe lifting. The side doors allow side access
to the surprisingly large patient treatment area. Despite being slightly
smaller than the previous Ford Ambulance, the vehicle is quite comfortable
and easy to work out of. |
The Toyota Landcruiser Ambulance
 |
The Toyota Landcruiser Ambulance has been in service with the
Ambulance Service of New South Wales for a number of years and has been
quite successful as a four wheel drive Ambulance to access patients in
bush, scrub or in adverse weather conditions. |
 |
The Toyota Landcruiser Ambulance is based on a Toyota Landcruiser
Troopcarrier model and its Ambulance interior/exterior is fitted by Jakab
industries in Tamworth. The vehicle is powered by a 4.2 litre distillate
motor and comes as a four wheel drive. |
 |
The vehicle has a relatively small patient treatment area and is
unsuitable for some cases, however it is ideal for difficult access cases
with 4 wheel drive and high ground clearance. The vehicle is equipped with
a winch and various devices for 4 wheel driving and recovery. It is also
equipped with a basket stretcher for patient movement through difficult
terrain. |
