| | Lightning Ridge Ambulance Station History
Lightning Ridge Ambulance Station commenced operation in July 1984 following the closure and transfer of officers and buildings from Goodooga. The reason for the movement of the station was the declining Goodooga workload and the increasing workload at Lightning Ridge forced onto Walgett Ambulance by the absence of a Service in Lightning Ridge. The establishment of an Ambulance Service at Lightning Ridge was a long drawn out process. From as early as 1972 attempts were made by locals and nearby Walgett Ambulance Officials to establish a branch in Lightning Ridge, however they were unsuccessful until February 1984 when approval was granted by the Acting State Superintendent. | Lightning Ridge Ambulance Station - Built by Locals in 1984 to establish a permanently staffed Ambulance Service. | Two permanent officers commenced duty at Lightning Ridge in July 1984 using the residence transferred from Goodooga and a brick building built by the Community. From 1988 through to 1991 Lightning Ridge station was upgraded to a three officer branch with one of the positions responsible for the relief of the single officer Collarenebri Branch. In 1991 Collarenebri branch was upgraded to a two officer branch and therefore Lightning Ridge was again downgraded to two as the relief officer was no longer required. In 1998, due to workload Lightning Ridge was again upgraded to a three officer branch with the arrival of a third qualified Ambulance Officer. In July 2000 following a Rural Staffing Review the Lightning Ridge Station was officially upgraded to a four officer station.
