Preparations are well under way to hold this exciting event, namely the AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK DARTS CHAMPIONSHIPS, at Lightning Ridge next April.
The total prizemoney on offer will be approximately $21,000, making it the richest darts competition in Australia. The most incredible feature of the competition, though, will be that each player will be able to participate in at least 20 matches, as opposed to about three to four matches in any other competition.
We have formed the Association, elected the Committee, have reserved the name of the Association, and are now applying for incorporation.
The Lightning Ridge Rotary Club is donating the funding for the expenses of the incorporation and the registration of the name, while the Opal Cave is advancing the expenses to help organise and promote the competition.
The committee members are:
President: John Mackay
Senior Vice President: Peter Collison
Junior Vice President: Ron Campbell
Treasurer: Fred Broadbent
Secretary: Herman Kreller
Assist Sec/Treasurer: Wendy Bancroft
Publicity: Herman Kreller
Public Officer: Danielle Osborne
The committee thanks the Bowling Club for making available the venue for this event, which is expected to bring between 500 and 600 people to our town during the weekend before Easter next year.
Three of the above committee members - Danielle, Peter and Herman - are local Rotarians who were involved in the organising and running of this year’s extremely successful Rotary District Conference with its 608 attendees. Fred is the person who thought of the concept of the competition. His and Wendy’s experience lies in the game of darts, while John is a long-term Director of the Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club.
This mixture of expertise will certainly prove beneficial to the successful organisation and running of the competition.
Secretary
Herman Kreller
