Country Energy team leaders from the Northwestern Region held a field services management meeting in Lightning Ridge this week.

Managers came together over two days to discuss key issues in the region including safety and environment, public safety, vegetation trials and management,” said Kevin Sweeney, Regional General Manager, Northwestern Country Energy.

“It is the opportunity Northwestern team leaders, representing 25% of the states power, have had to come together to discuss these matters.

“For many it is their first visit to Lightning Ridge which will give them a greater understanding of your area.

The issue of power to the mining fields was raised.

“We understand that it is a complex issue, with some concerns for sterilisation of the ground,” said Mr Sweeney, “however, there has always been provision for persons with bona fide medical reasons to have power connected.”

Walgett Shire Council Mayor, Peter Waterford, delivered a warm welcome to visiting managers. “I am pleased that you will have the opportunity to see first-hand a number of our localised problems.

“Let me say that when the offer of a Western Lands Lease is made to Residential Mining Claimholders, you will probably have about 2000 hands going up for power and you will be expected to have solutions.

“Welcome to our lively little town, it is one of the best in the west.” The Mayor concluded by personally thanking Country Energy for their quick response to emergency call-outs

“One of the strengths of a bigger organisation is the ability to pool resources,” said Mr Sweeney.

“A recent example of this pooling and efficiency is the work undertaken between Bourke and Wanaaring. By despatching a number of teams to replace vital poles the work was effected with expediency.

“This meeting is also our opportunity for us to recognise the outstanding safety record achieved by our North Western field service teams’, said Mr. Sweeney.

Certificates of Recognition, signed by Managing Director, Craig Murray, were presented to the region for achieving a 12 month period without a loss of time injury.

Individual team leaders also received Certificates of recognition on behalf of their respective areas.

A function at Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club was attended by the team leaders Monday night as part of their tour of Walgett Shire.
