The application for a Community Technology Centre (CTC) at Lightning Ridge is in its final stages of preparation. There has been significant community support from local businesses and visitors to the town for a state-of-the-art technology and office services provider in Lightning Ridge.
While community support is strong, the major challenge for the application is earmarking a venue to host the Centre. Proprietors of unleased business outlets have been approached to support the bid by providing subsidised rent and/or sponsorship for rental income to secure a venue for the application. CTC Committee Member and Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Stephen Eldridge said “The CTC will deliver enormous benefits to Lightning Ridge by providing computer training, web development, office services and Internet facilities. The application is near completion, however, we require a venue to accommodate the centre. We are now relying on support from local businesses to deliver Lightning Ridge a highly functional technology centre to open up opportunities for personal, business and regional development”.
“As part of the selection criteria in gaining State Government funding for a technology centre, strong community support must be demonstrated. Securing a venue is the most critical to the success of the application and therefore we really need businesses to support our bid to ensure we get the Centre”, Mr Eldridge said.
