The Carr Government is improving education and training in the Barwon area with capital works projects valued at more than $8.5 million included in the 2002/3 State Budget.
The Minister for Education and Training John Watkins, said a new facility will be built at Lightning Ridge and there will also be a major upgrade of Lightning Ridge Central School with work to commence in 2002/3.
“The new $950,000 facility will house a learning centre, general purpose classrooms, teacher accommodation and administrative facilities,” said Mr Watkins.
“This upgrade will enable the delivery of educational services in the area, which also complement services provided by the Central School,” he said. Mr Watkins said the $4.182 million, Stage II upgrade of Lightning Ridge Central School will continue with the additional of classrooms to replace the school’s existing demountable facilities.
“A further $3.8 million has been allocated to complete Stage III of the project, which will provide facilities for studies in visual arts, materials technology and science and a performance space and a senior learning unit will also be provided.”
“The $950,000 facility will house a library which is a combined community, TAFE, and school unit and staff room, explained Andrew McAleer.
