The planning for the 2002 Safari is underway and they would like you to join them.
For those of you who’ve done the safari before, you know what an adventure it can be and this year promises to be just that, with some spectacular destinations.
Committee members Dave Harvey, Danielle Osborne, Darren Pace and Judy Smits have recently returned from a recci trip to plan the trip for the 2002 Bush Safari.
This year you can expect all the usual highlights, such as the talent quest, outdoor movies, the “silly” hat, trivia night, swagman’s theme night, Doug’s Dinner and many more memorable moments.
The queries last safari indicated going north was the preferred destination, so north it is.
This Safari promises to be one of the most spectacular routes yet from Lightning Ridge, the home of Australia’s National Gemstone, through towns such as Kynuna, Burke & Wills Roadhouse, Karumba, with the crystal blue waters of the Gulf of Carpentaria, Law Hill, Mt Isa, Ilfracombe and Mitchell.
The trip has a variety of road surfaces, but it not a race, rally or trail. Vehicles travel at their own pace, supported by Safari mechanics, NSW Police Service, Ambulance, State Emergency Service as well as the friendly committee members.
All you have to do is follow the well signposted route, detailed itinerary and stay between the two guiding police vehicles. This is the ideal way to enjoy a true Australian Outback adventure with safety and support.
Tourists are guaranteed to leave the Safari with some fond memories of Lightning Ridge, its people and your own Safari adventure, plus the knowledge that you have helped the Ridge’s community (home of the “Black Opal”). All proceeds go to the local charities and service organisations. The committee aims to prove satisfaction and quality, so the number of vehicles accepted is very limited. It’s first in, first served, so register early. If you know of anyone who may be interested please give their name and address to the committee so they can invite them along, phone 6829 9799.
The committee looks forward to having you join them this year.
