The future of “waste dumps” at Mulga’s Rush, Grawin and Carters are in the balance as applications covering these areas have been pended.
A stringent assessment of applications will be undertaken and many hurdles will need to be overcome before the grant of any title is effected.
If the applications are granted it may bring with it conditions, including public liability, security bonds and rehabilitation.
The pegging has aroused widespread and differing opinions throughout the mining communities.
GGSMA spokesperson, Tony Evans said their Association is in the process of putting on paper and submitting to the Department the manner in which they feel the waste dumps should be administered.
Meanwhile, LRMA Secretary Manager, Maxine O’Brien, said thy are not opposed to the applications if a miner wishes to maintain the waste area and comply with the conditions placed upon them.
One of the pending applications at Mulga’s Rush is the site of the next waste dump.
If granted, whether “speckers” will be allowed at the dump sites will be determined by the titleholder.
For some time the area has become a hive of activity drawing large numbers of “regulars” and tourists to “speck” the waste dumps.
Many valuable finds have been reported.
The increasing numbers at the sites have prompted concerns for safety and liability, whilst rubble strewn in the vicinity is a blot on the environment which is otherwise well tended by miners in the area.
It is business as usual whilst the Department of Mineral Resources determines the future of waste dumps on the mining fields.
