Visibly, the beautification of Walgett Shire program is having effect.
Aimed at lifting the overall image of the Shire it is closely linked with the Parks and Gardens budget and utilises CDEP participants and community groups.
John Burden, Group Manager Infrastructure Management, praised the overall performance of those involved.
Two areas have been targeted for beautification in Lightning Ridge - the John Roset Lions Memorial Park (opposite the swimming pool_ and an area in Opal Street.
Both areas will be grassed and maintained and have large boulders flanking their perimeters.
The Bougainvillea Way, initiated by the Lightning Ridge Improvement and Beautification committee is developing well and with the assistance of a Work-for-the-Dole team has been tidied.
Lightning Ridge Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc have been the driving force behind proposed projects for Work-for-the-Dole participants.
The team has contributed valuable hours at the Pony Club Grounds and will assist as directed.
A decision by Lightning Ridge District Bowling club to relinquish their involvement with the Lightning Ridge Sporting Oval if additional funding is not made available is being considered by Council.
Though Council has not accurately costed this project it is expected they will assume responsibility for the maintenance of the grounds.
