$600,000 grant to Lightning Ridge Central School

Lightning Ridge Central School will under go a major building project with the announcement of a $600,000 Commonwealth Government grant by the Hon. John Anderson, member for Gwydir last Monday. The grant, part of the Commonwealth capital grants Program for Schools, will go towards building new learning spaces, visual arts and science facilities.

“The new facilities will help the school provide the best possible learning environment for students in the area.” Mr. Anderson said.

The Commonwealth capital grants Programme for Schools is designed to improve the educational outcomes of educationally disadvantaged students.

In 2002 the Commonwealth government will spend more than $6 billion on funding for government and non government schools.

“Over the period 2001-2004 the Commonwealth Government will provide around $25.2 billion in direct funding to schools. This demonstrates the Governments commitment to a strong and effective school system, maximising the opportunities for young Australians,” Mr. Anderson said.
