16 January 2002 $12,500 boost for local charities The hard-working trio of Carol Ramsay, Dianne Brown and Judy Melonas Recipients of the amazing amount of money raised - Eddie Webb (UHA), Tony Elkins (Cadets), Hazel Collins (UHA), Barbara Moritz (Historical Society), Sister Anne and Ann Brown (OPAL FM) Local charities were the beneficiaries of a mammoth volunteer effort by Carol Ramsay, Dianne Brown and Judy Melonas.

This willing band of volunteers each week conduct Sunday raffles for Lightning Ridge Hotel Motel patrons.

At the close of 2001 they presented a staggering $12,500 to local charities: $10,000 UHA; $750 Cadets; $750 OPAL FM; Historical Society $750 and $250 Sister Anne.

This has been a repeat effort for the trio who this year have been nominated in the Citizens of the Year category of the Australia Day Awards hosted by Lightning Ridge.

They are a true example of the spirit of volunteers who seek little recognition for their continued efforts.
