FRIDAY DEADLINE

Members must lodge their nominations for President and Director of the LRMA with the office by this Friday 13 November before 5pm.

The LRMA Board comprises of a President and seven Directors. These are very interesting and challenging roles and any member who is interested in the future of our industry and having a tangible input into that future should nominate.

OPB RELEASE

OPB 116 between Fantasia Street, the airport and 3 Mile Road will be released next Friday 20th November 2009 at 9.30am but it would be wise to be at the Department’s office around 9am.

The release of this block is the culmination of over three years lobbying by the LRMA. This area had been a policy reserve put aside for future urban expansion by the Walgett Shire Council. The Shire have since earmarked an area of 26 ha for development just behind Fantasia Street and agreed to release the balance for further prospecting and mining. It was finally acknowledged that should part of OPB 116 be required for future urban expansion it will be many decades into the future.

RESEARCH

The University of Sydney’s new opal research website is well worth looking at so log on and browse. http://web.me.com/patrice.rey/The_Opal_Project/Welcome.html Dr Patrice Rey was successful in securing three years of funding to research opal and he will be keeping the industry updated via this website.
