ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Well it is that time of year again and the 35th LRMA Annual General Meeting will be held 11am this Saturday 22 November upstairs at the Bowling Club.

We have received one nomination for President and that is Sebastian Deisenberger, proposed by Mark Holland and seconded by Fred Mallouk and therefore Sebastian will be elected President unopposed for the next 12 months. Nominations for Directors are Mark Holland, proposed by Paul Tishler and seconded by Tim Jenner; Chris Cheal, proposed by Susan Cummings and seconded by Charlie Brown; Fred Mallouk, proposed by Mark Holland and seconded by Sebastian Deisenberger; Michael Cooke, proposed by Chris Cheal and seconded by Ole Finne; Ormie Molyneux, proposed by Geoff Peady and seconded by Don Halse; Drago Panich, proposed by Brett Hyland and seconded by Gavin Thomson; and Kim Botfield, proposed by Allan Bamford and seconded by Joe Molyneux.

For those with maths skills you will have noted that we have only received seven nominations for Directors and we require nine, no doubt this is an indication of the current state of the industry.

Outgoing Directors are Anthony Melonas, Kim Wiesenberger and Danny Hatcher. We thank them all for their hard work over the past couple of years, particularly Danny who has been an extremely hard working LRMA President for two years.

Members will be discussing a motion at the AGM to reduce the number of Directors from nine to seven. If this motion is passed by two thirds of members present at the meeting then we have sufficient Directors. If the members do not want to reduce the number of Directors then we do not have enough Directors and nominations will be called for from the floor of the meeting.

XMAS PARTY

This year we will be holding the Christmas party at the RSL Club starting at 1pm. All members and their families are welcome so come along for some fun and frivolity. A barbecue lunch and some drinks will be provided.

EXCESS MULLOCK

This is a simple reminder for miners to dump their excess mullock in a waste dump and dump as close as possible to the back of a dump and to other mullock. Responsible dumping will save all miners time and money as any mullock dumped in the bush will need to be picked up and this is paid for by miners from the rehabilitation levy. Thanks.

HUDSON PEAR

Hudson Pear (Cylindropuntia rosea) remains the focus of Western Catchment Management Authority’s (WCMA) 2008 funding for the Lightning Ridge area. The WCMA has funded a second project to control the weed on the opal fields around Lightning Ridge and the LRMA commenced spraying at the beginning of October 2008.

The community continues to help by borrowing back packs and spraying around their camps and many also let us know where there may be pear that needs to be sprayed. We are currently down a few back packs so would anyone who has one, please return it.

Lightning Ridge will be playing host to the Chairmen and General Managers of all the Catchment Management Authorities in NSW this week. They will be touring the region including the Grawin Glengarry area and the opal fields around Lightning Ridge.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The 35th Annual General Meeting will be held at 11am on Saturday 22 November in the upstairs function room of the Bowling Club. Members will be mailed all the relevant information at the end of this week including nomination forms for President and Directors which are also available at the LRMA office. They must be lodged at the LRMA office by 7 November.

Please come along, all members are welcome but you must be financial to attend so if you have not renewed your membership come into the office.

We will be having Xmas drinks and barbecue for members and their family following the AGM at about 1pm but we have not quite decided on the venue as yet. We will let you know next week.
