FREE BARBECUE AND WORKSHOP ON MARKETING TECHNIQUES

The Orana Area Consultative Committee is hosting a free barbecue in the beer garden of the Bowling Club this Friday 8 June at 3.30pm. The Area Consultative committee is coming to the Ridge to assist home based businesses and they are hosting guest speaker Niels Bendixsen who will facilitate a workshop on marketing techniques. It should be a very interesting afternoon so come along.

If you can attend please contact the LRMA office on 6829 0427 so that we have an idea of numbers.

OPENING UP OF NEW PROSPECTING AREAS

We are getting closer to opening up another five Opal Prospecting Blocks in OPA 4. We have just signed an Access Management Plan with the owner of ‘Kurrajong’ and the relevant environmental studies and cultural heritage assessments have been completed. There is one more process the Department of Primary Industries needs to complete to satisfy their requirements under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and then it should be all go.

Environmental and cultural heritage assessments have also been completed for Barfield but we have yet to negotiate an Access Management Plan.

The LRMA was unable to reach an agreement on an Access Management Plan with the Wyoming landholder and this matter has now been referred to the Mining Warden’s Court for Inquiry. The first hearing to determine the issues and set a date for the Inquiry to begin will be held on 20 June 2007. The Inquiry itself at best guess may commence the following month. Once this matter has been determined there will be two new Opal Prospecting Blocks to release on Wyoming and the Great Eastern Extension which has had been pending for about four years will become available for mining.

The process for new areas has been extremely slow but we have been making progress.

ENIRONMENTAL AUDIT

The NSW Department of Primary Industries will be conducting an environmental audit of all titles on Wee Warra next week. Anyone with titles please ensure they are up to scratch. The results from the audit will be made public and provide a benchmark for future audits.

SECURITY BONDS

The Department are putting together a proposal to gradually increase security bonds for OPAs 1, 2 and 3 up to a level that covers the cost of rehabilitation. We have not seen the detail as yet but the Department flagged that this may happen a couple of years ago when they increased the bonds on OPA 4.

The LRMA security bond scheme is getting closer with only a few details to be ironed out with the Department. When in place members will be able to lodge the one bond with the LRMA for mineral claims and OPBs and they will roll over onto new titles as existing ones are cancelled.
