PREQUALIFICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONTRACTORS

The Department of Primary Industries and the LRMA have agreed to a regime for undertaking rehabilitation works outside of the preserved fields, utilising the $20 levy that claimholders pay on registration and renewal of their title.

The Department will be selecting contractors through a prequalification scheme. The selected contractors will remain in place for two years and will be called upon to quote on rehabilitation work as it comes up.

Applications for prequalification close on 16 August 2007 and to be considered it is mandatory that the contractor attend at site meeting and the GGSMA office at 10am on Wednesday 25th July 2007. Contractors must also hold relevant insurance and prepare a safety and environment plan.

Interested contractors for the scheme would have received paperwork from the Department and if you have not and are interested, contact them asap.

The LRMA or GGSMA will develop a scope of works in conjunction with the relevant landholder and the Department will call on a number of the pre-qualified contractors to quote on the works, approve the works and pay the bill.

The LRMA will be registering as a contractor and we will be calling upon sub-contractors to undertake works on our behalf. If you wish to be a sub-contractor to the LRMA please contact the LRMA office. Interested sub-contractors to the LRMA must attend the meeting at the GGSMA office, 10am Wednesday 25 July 2007.

ACCESS - HOT ITEM ON THE AGENDA

The Chief Mining Warden has set aside the 4th, 5th and 6th September to inquire into an access management plan for the property Wyoming. The LRMA, landholder and Department will prepare submissions for the Warden prior to the Inquiry. This Inquiry will more than likely set the precedents for future Access Management Plans.

The Warden will also be holding an Inquiry into rights of way in early August. This issue arose to provide access for title holders on the property Malabar.

We have negotiated an access management plan for the property Kurrajong and the Department should finalise their environmental determinations in the near future for Kurrajong and Barfield. We have also notified the landholder of Barfield of our intention to negotiate an access management plan for that property. Once this is in place the new OPBs on both properties will be released. The OPBs on Kurrajong will most likely be released first.
