SIGNS ON THE OPAL FIELDS

There are numerous signs around the opals fields advising various things such as no access restricted access to mining traffic only, Puddling Tank signs warning off trespassers, Hudson Pear signs etc. Apparently some signs have been vandalised on Muttabun which is a shame as these signs are there for the benefit of miners to keep people who should not be there off the opal fields.

OPAL PROSPECTING AREA 4

The opening up of additional areas on OPA 4, the properties Barfeild and Kurrajong is progressing very slowly. There are a few processes left to go through. One is looking at any Aboriginal sites that may require protecting. Another process the Department of Primary Industries is undertaking is looking at potential box swamps and Spinifex areas and the regime for prospecting and mining in or around them. The Department are then required to undertake an environmental determination and the LRMA need to negotiate an Access Management Plan. So we are still some way off.
