ROAD COMMITTEE MEETING

The LRMA are holding a meeting for the Chairmen of the various road
committees on 17 June 2005. The purpose of the meeting will be to establish a program of work for the coming twelve months for the major access roads to the various mining fields.

Each area of the mining fields has a road committee and their role is to let the LRMA know when their road needs work and to check the work once it has been done. In the past the LRMA would call for quotes for the work and the road committee would select the contractor and approve payment. Now that the LRMA has its own grader there is no need to call for quotes. There has been very little rain over the past four years and this has made road works difficult. The LRMA believes it would be more efficient to plan a program of works, 12 months in advance for each area and the road committees need to play a major role in this process.
