The Lightning Ridge Miners’ Associated Ltd (LRMA) held their 41st Annual General Meeting last Saturday. The President Sebastian Deisenberger ran through the issues and events of the past 12 months and Joe Schellnegger present the LRMA Opal Advisory report for 2014.
The members at the meeting unanimously passed the motions nominating Ormond Molyneux and Fred Mallouk as life members for their outstanding service to the LRMA and the opal industry over 22 and 18 years respectively. They join existing life members Jerry Lomax and Joe Schellnegger.
The members asked about a letter they have received from NSW Trade & Investment, Resources & Energy which talks about the NSW government’s commitment to a strong culture of compliance. The members were informed that this was a generic letter that had been sent to every mining titleholder in NSW. The letter advised that a new Compliance & Enforcement Branch had been set up and titleholders were reminded of their requirement to meet their obligations under the Mining Act and title conditions.
As members may be aware the Compliance & Enforcement Branch was here a couple of weeks ago and did a sweep of current titles on ‘Allawah’, ‘Rexeen’ and the town fields.
The members at the AGM were advised if they received a proposal to cancel their mineral claim from the Division of Resources and Energy for not having a compensation agreement they must reply to the Division in writing and to come into the LRMA office if they need assistance.
The AGM was followed by the LRMA Xmas party which was well attended considering the horrendous heat which was mitigated by a sprinkler on the roof which brought down the 46C to a bearable level with assistance from some icy cold ales.
