LIGHTNING Ridge is to get a Telstra shop.
The announcement was made by Barwon MP, Ian Slack-Smith at the official opening of the Lightning Ridge CTC - or Communications Technology Centre on Monday.
The Lightning Ridge CTC was the 16th to open in NSW and “from what I’ve seen already it will be the most successful,” Mr Slack-Smith said.
“A Telstra shop will do really well.”
It can take a while for a CTC to get established but  since actually opening its doors on September 13 it  was attracting an ever increasing circle of users, CTC chairman Stephen Eldridge said.
Young people can  play games and e-mail their friends but they can also use the RTA links to get their L-plates, Barwon MP, Ian Slack-Smith said.
Partnerships had also  been formed with the school and TAFE, to use its power as a research tool.
The official opening of the  CTC wasalso to thank the sponsors and supporters, and chief among those would be wives of committee members, Mr Eldridge said.
It was particularly to thank the State and Federal governments for the $149,500 through the Departmnt of Commerce to set it up.
Continuing help had come from the NSW goverment.
CTC NSW  networking services available at CTCs nd helped attract joint users like the Telstra shop and the Australian Tax Office.
The ATO publicised its website, has a call centre number for individual help.
It offers workshops for groups of 10 or more.
