RESIDENTS have only two weeks to put  in their nominations for Walgett Shire Council’s Australia Day Awards 2004.
The awards will recognise:
• Citizen of the year.
• Senior citizen of the year (over 55 years).
• Junior citizen of the year (up to 18 years of age).
• Senior sports person.
• Junior sports person (18-25 years of age).
• School sports person.
A volunteer of the year will also be recognised for each of the communities in the Shire: i.e. Collarenebri, Burren Junction, Rowena, Cumborah, Walgett, Carinda, Grawin and Glengarry, Lightning Ridge and Come-by-Chance.
The Australia Day awards were a way that the community can thank individuals who have excelled in their field and who have made a significant contribution to the community.
This recognition will, hopefully, encourage them to continue their excellent work.
Nomination forms can be obtained from  council or the RTA office in Bill O’Brien Way and clubs, organisations and individuals are invited for put forward names and give full support to the Australia Day Awards 2004.
Nomination forms must be in no later than November 24, 2003 and results of the Awards will be announced at the Australia Day Celebrations to be held in Collarenebri on January 26, 2004.
